After spending several years as a traditionally-certified public school teacher, teaching remains one of the primary reasons why I enjoy the world of research. There are so many formal and informal opportunities to teach/mentor others in terms of new skillsets, content, frameworks, workflows, etc., and equally numerous ways to be taught and mentored myself. There are few things I enjoy more than the intellectual process of “disassembling” a complex idea/concept into its fundamental components, and then guiding others to nuanced new learnings through that lens — ultimately empowering students to do more and deepening their understanding of the world.
Moreover, I strive to make my teaching accessible, responsive, and collaborative. My goal is that every one of my students feels they have the capacity to grow and learn; in pursuit of that goal, it is equally important to me that they feel they belong and are valued in my classroom.
